Salvation Series I - Part 2 - The Fall of Man

I hope you understood all of the principles explained in part 1 so that we can move on to the fall of man.
Gen 2:16-17
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
We explained in part 1 that Adam was made perfect, he was however given the ability to choose to obey God or not. It was the heart of the Father that Adam obey him everyday of his life and also to teach his children to do the same. Jesus said if you love me you will obey my commandments (John 14:15), obedience therefore is man's expression of love for the Father. God is love and Adam was created to love him. It was his fellowship with God and his obedience to God that would manifest his love towards Him.
The scriptures reads, in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
What is this death?
Gen 3:1-7
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
The scripture says the day that they ate of the fruit they would die. However we know that they did not die the death that we usually refer to as death (meaning his soul didn't leave his body). We know they had not died yet, because they did not have any children yet (children take 9 months to develop). But the scripture declares that it would be in the day that they ate of the fruit they would die. Well God's Word cannot lie. They both died that day, but what is this death if it was not physical?
Death is separation from God.

Important to note also that the serpent too was made good, holy and perfect. However the serpent allowed the devil's seed in and therefore even the serpent had sinned against God (hence the serpent was cursed).
Gen 3:14-15
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Herein we see what happened here, the seed of the serpent was the devil that had entered it. Also importantly noted here is that the woman was given a seed by God. In nature we know that it is the male who has the seed and passes it to the woman, however God gave a seed to the woman in this verse above. The seed he spoke of was Christ that would be born of a virgin without any influence of a man. It was a prophecy done by the Father. Christ would bruise the head of the devil (He would destroy him) and the devil would bruise the heel of Christ (he would crucify Him).
However if it is by the disobedience of the serpent that caused the devil to enter the serpent, what do you think happened when Adam and Eve disobeyed?
We stated above that the day they ate of the fruit they died. We know that death not to be physical because they didn't die that day physically, we know therefore that the death was a spiritual death. The day they ate of the fruit the spirit of death entered their bodies.
Jn 8:39-44
39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God:this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me:for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own:for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The above is a conversation between Jesus and the Pharisees. However look at verse 44. Jesus was not simply being disrespectful here, he was speaking the truth. The devil was truly their Father, why? Because he had entered the body of Adam and they came forth from Adam. The devil is the spirit of death, he is the spirit that works in the children of disobedience.
Eph 2:1-3
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Rom 8:14-15
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Just as the devil entered the serpent, the devil also entered Adam when he sinned. He is the spirit of bondage that all mankind received because of Adam's sin. Romans lets us know that God is our Father when we receive His Spirit, however before we received His Spirit we were the children of wrath/disobedience/of the devil.
The devil produced a law in the body of Adam called the law of sin and death (Rom 8:1-2). The law of gravity says anything that goes up must come down. The law of sin and death says as long as we are in these bodies we will sin and perish.
We learned in part 1, that the soul was positionally in the flesh (see Fig 1.). By the law of sin and death, sin worked in our bodies. Our souls were therefore left to live in sinful bodies until the day we die.
Rom 7:5
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Romans 7 is a chapter that has been butchered by many ministers, but we must see the perspective of God for this scripture. This chapter is often used to make reference to the Sons of God. THIS IS GROSS ERROR. Romans 7 is a chapter that mainly focuses on a man that does not have the Holy Ghost. We can see this clearly when we compare Rom 7:5 to the following chapter Rom 8:8-9.
Rom 8:8-9
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
This is so plain and simple. Romans 7 is explaining the spiritual disposition of a person who does not have the Holy Ghost. Paul is explaining what happened to Adam after he sinned. The devil had entered his flesh and he kept Adam bound to sin. He would not allow Adam to do righteousness even if the soul of Adam desired to. However Romans 8:8-9 shows a great distinction between a Son and a sinner. They that are in the flesh cannot please God, but the Sons of God are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Holy Ghost is in our bodies. If the Spirit of God does not dwell in us, then we do not belong to God, we belong to the devil.
Do not be dismayed, there may be some things which we do not understand but that sidebar was necessary that we do not think that Romans 7 is speaking of the saved man, but it is speaking of the fallen man.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law:for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9 For I was alive without the law once:but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual:but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not:for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not:but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Let us remember that the scripture highlights the position of the soul in the unsaved man. The soul is in the flesh (verse 5).
Above I highlighted all the crucial points we must note in order to understand the scripture above. Here Paul speaks as an unsaved man who is under the law of Moses, trying to obey the law. The law is spiritual, it indeed points to God but because of the law of sin in him, he realizes that he cannot fulfill the law. Sin was in him. The purpose of the devil entering the body was to prevent the soul from being able to use its body to perform righteousness.
Remember we had learnt that the body gives the soul access to the earth, but it is the soul that is the real us. When the devil entered the body of Adam he held the soul captive. Let us not forget that before he was the devil he was Lucifer, an arch angel of God. However the soul was made from air. Lucifer is more powerful than the soul. Therefore when his spirit entered Adam he overpowered the soul of Adam and produced the law of sin and death in the body. This was so that Adam could never please God because his very means of expression (the body) was now by nature sinful.
Look at verse 24 of Rom 7, the body was now a body of death, because the devil lived in it. There was no way we could please God because the devil took residence in the body and would not leave till we die. He is the strongman that has taken over the house of Adam (Matt 12:29).
God made a law in the garden of Eden, every seed would produce after its kind. Well Adam had a seed, and his seed would also produce after its kind. Adam would not produce an elephant or a tree but he would produce a human. However when Satan entered, he corrupted the seed of Adam. Adam was now evil and so was his seed. Adam was sinful and so all that would ever be born from Adam would also be born in sin. Death reigned on all mankind by one man's sin.
Rom 5:12-19
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 (For until the law sin was in the world:but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift:for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
I pray you are understanding the fall of mankind.
