Salvation Series I - Part 3 - Save Me Oh Lord

Rom 7:24 - O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
In part 2 we learned that the body and soul were overtaken by the devil when Adam sinned. All his offspring were in turn born just as he was - bound.
Rom 5:6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
We were without the strength to please God. We were in the flesh and our flesh was sinful. It was a body of death and a body of sin. We needed to be saved. Our souls needed to be saved from our bodies.
We all know the gospel, Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world. When Jesus was on the cross, all the sins of the world were placed upon his flesh and it was ripped to pieces. Jesus died for every sin that ever was and is and will be.
Oh what amazing grace!
He not only died on the cross for us all, but he also rose from the dead. It is because Jesus died, we are able to ask God for repentance, but because he rose, we can receive His Spirit.
Rom 5:10
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
His death paid the debt for our sins, but it is when we receive His spirit we are saved!
Save - to preserve, to keep from perishing.
Let us consider something, as the mystery continues to unravel. All human beings are born with human bodies, but whether we are saved or not, our bodies will return to the ground. Even those that will be alive in the rapture, the scripture says we shall put off corruptible (our fleshy bodies) and put on incorruptible (a spiritual body)(1 Cor 15:53). But it is the soul that will continue to live whether it is clothed with a spiritual body in heaven or left naked in hell. There is an eternal nature to the soul, however the natural body is for life here on earth.
Therefore it is the soul aspect of us that needs to be saved (preserved). The body will return to the dust whether we like it or not. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption (1Co 15:50).
Psa 86:2
Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
When we ask the Lord for salvation, we often say save my soul and that is exactly what he does. However there is another aspect to be considered, remember this verse?

The body was sinful, so the body also has to be saved. The soul has to be delivered from the body to be saved, but Jesus did not forget our bodies at salvation.
